What Stone Is Good for Baby Teething

The pain of watching a baby go through teething is an experience that most new parents are not prepared for. It is heart-wrenching to see your little angel crying and in severe discomfort just because their first set of gnashers is growing in.

As a family business that caters to mums and babies, we are always looking for ways to make the teething process easier for both parents and the little ones.

In this article, we will share some of our tips to help you navigate your baby’s teething journey, as well as answer the question, ‘what stone is good for baby teething?’

How do you know when a baby is teething?

Teething is the process where a baby’s first teeth come through their gum line.

Usually, babies begin teething around the age of 6 months. In some cases, babies are born with their first tooth; while others start teething as early as 3 months old.

Look out for these signs, which indicate that your baby has started teething:

  • Baby’s gums are sore, tender and red, where the tooth is coming through
  • Baby has a mild temperature of less than 38C
  • Baby has one flushed cheek
  • Baby has a rash on their face
  • Baby keeps bringing their hands to their mouth
  • Baby is rubbing their cheeks or ear
  • Baby is dribbling and drooling more than usual
  • Baby is sucking, gnawing and chewing on things a lot
  • Baby is not sleeping very well
  • Baby is more fretful than usual
  • Baby has a decreased appetite
  • Baby has a runny nose

If you have any concerns about your baby’s health while they are teething, or any other symptoms are present, such as fever, make a doctor’s appointment, or use the NHS 111 service.

When do babies stop teething?

Baby teeth are temporary, as they will eventually fall out and be replaced by permanent teeth.

The teething process should end by the time the child reaches their third birthday. This is usually at around 25 to 33 months, which is when they should have all 20 baby teeth.

Your child’s first set of molars will come in when they reach 6 to 7 years old, while the second set comes in at around 12 or 13 years old.

How do teething toys help babies?

Teething toys are rattles, rings, bracelets, or necklaces that are designed to alleviate a baby’s teething pain.

The baby sucks and chews on the teething toy, which provides comfort and relief for the baby’s inflamed gums, during the painful process of teething.

Teething jewellery is not just a chewing aid for your baby: they are also an excellent distraction tool! Simply wave the teether in front of your baby’s eyes, and they will become focused on the colours, movement and noise, which will help them become less wriggly and irritable during breastfeeding or feeding.

So, what stone is good for baby teething?

  • Silicone
What Stone Is Good for Baby Teething

Okay, so silicone is not a stone, but it is an excellent material to make baby teething toys.

Silicone comes in various forms, including rubber, resin, and oil, so it is present in things like adhesives, medical applications and cookware.

Silicone is regarded as one of the safest materials to use for baby products because it is heat-resistant, easy to clean, and highly reusable. It is commonly used to make baby bottles, bibs, dummies, and baby spoons and plates.

It is a great alternative to plastic, which may contain neurotoxic chemicals and pollutants.

Teething toys made from silicone are easy for babies to grip and soft enough that they won’t hurt the baby if they accidentally drop it on their face.

Chewing on a silicone teething toy will soothe a baby’s sensitive, aching gums. You can place the teether to chill in the fridge before giving it to your baby, as the cold sensation will provide extra relief for their sore, inflamed gums.

  • Amber

Amber is a gemstone of a honey-brown colour. A lightweight stone with natural beauty, it is formed from resin exuded from tree bark.

Amber has been used as a natural remedy for pain since Roman times, as it contains anti-inflammatory properties. The stone is worn in jewellery, due to the belief that wearing amber against the skin helps provide relief from pain, improves circulation, and boosts vitality.

That is why some teething bracelets and necklaces are made using amber stones because the gemstone is thought to provide calmness from ailments and promote healing.

  • Rose Quartz

Rose Quartz is a pink mineral quartz, commonly associated with love, compassion, femininity and gentleness. Ancient Egyptians used Rose Quartz beads, amulets and talismans because they believed it could prevent aging.

The stone is mined all over the world. It forms from magma in very high temperatures.

Some teething jewellery pieces are made with Rose Quartz stones, because it is believed to act as a natural sedative, bringing calming, gentle energy and relieving pain or stress.

Is teething jewellery safe?

At Mama Jewels, our teething accessories meet EU product safety requirements. We carefully check all our products to guarantee that they are free from toxic materials and chemicals like BPA, PVC and phthalates. Our jewellery doesn’t contain any heavy metals, lead or cadmium.

Always supervise your baby for the entire time they use a teething product. Additionally, never put a teething necklace around a baby’s neck: it should be worn by an adult instead.

Our teething jewellery is designed to be chewable, so it meets your child’s teething needs. From the age of 3 months, children start grabbing items within reach and chewing on them. They like placing objects inside their mouths because it allows them to explore the world around them, while it also introduces them to new germs, which helps them build their immune system.
